In plain words
The ministry announced a new €15 million action to compensate coastal fishers for nets damaged by dolphins, seals and sea turtles. The call is not out yet, so amounts, the period covered and dates are not known.
Who can apply
Coastal professional fishers (owners of coastal fishing vessels). Detailed criteria will be set in the call.
What it pays for
Compensation for damage to fishing gear (nets) caused by protected marine species. For reference, the previous round (Action 1.6.2, damage in 2022–2024, 100% public funding) paid €12.32 per fishing day for VMS-equipped vessels, or a yearly lump sum of €805 (vessels under 6 m) and €1,763 (6–12 m).
